The New York State Police have announced the promotion of Captain Kyle J. Kroeger to the rank of Major and his appointment as the 28th Commander of Troop T, the division responsible for policing the New York State Thruway, including the stretch that runs through Rockland County.

Major Kroeger brings more than 20 years of law enforcement and military experience to the position. Most recently, he served as Captain and Zone Commander for Troop F, Zone 1, overseeing State Police operations in Sullivan County. He previously served as Administrative Captain for Troop T, giving him direct experience with Thruway operations.

A veteran of the New York State Police since 2002, Kroeger has held numerous leadership roles throughout his career, including assignments in Troops F and K, the Office of Emergency Management, and command positions in Wurtsboro, Middletown, Liberty, and Cortlandt.

As Commander of Troop T, Major Kroeger will oversee 12 State Police stations across 21 counties from New York City to Buffalo. Troop T is responsible for law enforcement and public safety along the Thruway’s 570 miles, including the heavily traveled sections through Rockland County used daily by thousands of local residents and commuters.

Before joining the State Police, Kroeger served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and as a Deputy Sheriff with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds an MBA from Marist College.

Major Kroeger succeeds Major Brian T. Ferrone, who has assumed command of Troop K.
