A New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) HELP truck operator was injured Saturday on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway after another driver failed to slow down and move over for his stopped vehicle.
According to the NYS DOT, the operator had just pulled over to assist a stranded motorist and was seconds away from stepping out of his truck when the crash occurred. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and sent the HELP operator to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officials stressed that the situation could have been far worse, noting the driver’s survival was due to timing—not because the approaching motorist followed the law.
Authorities are once again urging drivers to slow down and move over when approaching any stopped vehicle, emphasizing that lives depend on it.
