Nyack Mayor Joe Rand Holds Campaign Kickoff for 38th State Senate Race

Nearly a month after announcing his candidacy, Nyack Mayor Joe Rand held a campaign kickoff event Wednesday evening for the New York State Senate race in the 38th District, drawing dozens of supporters, elected officials, and community leaders from across Rockland County.

The event marked Rand’s first major in-person campaign gathering since entering the race for the Democratic nomination. The 38th Senate District seat is currently held by Senator Bill Weber, a Republican who is also running for reelection, setting the stage for a competitive general election contest.

Attendees included local elected officials, nonprofit and business leaders, and residents who gathered to show early support and hear directly from Rand about his vision for Rockland County. Speakers and supporters pointed to his record as Mayor of Nyack and his hands-on approach to local governance.

During his remarks, Rand highlighted investments made under his leadership in infrastructure, efforts to address affordability, and expanded community programming. He emphasized a results-driven and bipartisan approach to government, saying he hopes to bring that same problem-solving mindset to Albany.

Rand also addressed key challenges facing Rockland residents, including rising utility and healthcare costs, housing affordability, traffic and safety concerns, and the need for increased state funding for local governments and community-based nonprofits. He reiterated his commitment to working across party lines to improve quality of life throughout the district.

Supporters described the kickoff as an energetic and optimistic start to what is expected to be a closely watched race for the 38th State Senate District.

  1. What a joke, he really thinks he will win????
    I petty these people,
And btw I see who supports him so that’s the biggest proof that he will lose
    Young people which need attention.

    • Party line garbage.
We vote for candidates that can actually deliver assistance to the community, we don’t cote party line.

  2. How is he going to deliver for our tuition and schools and property taxes???!! What is he going to do about stealing our vote by the Education commissioner when we voted down the school budget increase? When will we receive a refund on our school property taxes paid due to the vote steal?
