A tense scene unfolded Saturday afternoon at Fresh Market in Nyack when a man described as a non-local individual locked himself in one of the store’s restrooms and indicated he might harm himself. Responding calmly and efficiently, Orangetown Police evacuated the store and initiated negotiations.
After roughly two hours and with the assistance of the Rockland REACT SWAT team, officers successfully secured a peaceful resolution. The man was taken by ambulance to Montefiore Nyack Hospital for a mental-health evaluation. No injuries were reported.
Fresh Market has since reopened.
