A Nyack man was arrested by New York State Police on May 1 after troopers discovered him asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle parked on the shoulder of the New York State Thruway in Greenburgh.
According to State Police, shortly before 6:00 p.m., troopers assigned to SP Tarrytown observed a 2008 Toyota sedan stopped on the right shoulder of I-87 in the Town of Greenburgh. The vehicle was running, and the driver — identified as 51-year-old Richard Joffre Lara-Bohorquez of Nyack — was found asleep in the driver’s seat.
Troopers said that during the investigation they observed signs of impairment and administered standardized field sobriety tests, which Lara-Bohorquez reportedly failed.
He was arrested and transported to SP Tarrytown for processing, where police say he registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.28%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%.
Lara-Bohorquez was later released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in Greenburgh Town Court on May 19, 2026.

If he was fully off the lanes, what is the probably cause?
