Rockland County, NY – In response to a concerning rise in serious crashes, some of which resulted in fatalities, on the Palisades Parkway in the Hudson Valley, the New York State Police recently launched an aggressive driving campaign. The initiative, conducted in Rockland County from Monday, May 16 to Sunday, May 28, aimed to discourage motorists from engaging in speeding and reckless driving behaviors, as stated by Trooper Steven Nevel.
Throughout the two-week campaign, the State Police received valuable assistance from the Rockland Sheriff’s Office on multiple occasions. The joint effort focused on enforcing traffic regulations and promoting safer driving practices among residents and commuters in the area.
The outcome of the intensive detail revealed the extent of the driving infractions observed during the campaign. A total of 993 tickets were issued, with 527 of them being for speeding violations. Additionally, eight individuals were arrested for driving under the influence (DWI), underscoring the need for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement against impaired driving.
To ensure sustained efforts in improving roadway safety, motorists should anticipate the continuation of similar details on the Palisades Parkway in the foreseeable future, according to Trooper Nevel. The State Police are committed to maintaining a visible presence and actively enforcing traffic laws to prevent accidents and protect the lives of all road users.
Trooper Nevel emphasized the importance of responsible driving practices for all motorists. Drivers are urged to prioritize safety by adhering to speed limits, refraining from using electronic devices while driving, abstaining from alcohol or drug consumption when behind the wheel, and demonstrating respect for other road users. By embracing these essential principles, drivers can contribute to creating a safer and more harmonious traffic environment in Rockland County.
