This weekend the North Rockland Central School District marked a memorable day with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Casarella Field at Ralph Cordisco Stadium. The event was followed by a thrilling varsity football match, where North Rockland secured a 37-27 victory over Carmel High School.
In a show of community pride and tradition, the district invited three distinguished alumni and local law enforcement officials—Chief John Gould of Haverstraw Police, Chief Gregory Becker of Stony Point, and Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco—to take part in the ceremonial coin toss. Each of these leaders had once excelled on the same field as North Rockland High School varsity football players, and their return to participate in the opening day festivities was a tribute to their enduring connection to the school and community.
“We’re honored to have been welcomed back and recognized during such a significant moment,” they shared. “Once a Raider, always a Raider!”
Rockland County Declares ‘Joe Casarella Day’
In conjunction with the celebration, Rockland County Executive Ed Day declared October 5, 2024, as “Joe Casarella Day” in Rockland County. This proclamation honors Joe Casarella, the longtime coach and athletic director, whose legacy of commitment to North Rockland’s young athletes is now immortalized with the naming of the new varsity football field in his honor.
“Coach Cas,” as he’s affectionately known, has left an indelible mark on the community, guiding countless student-athletes throughout his career. His dedication to shaping young lives through sports is a lasting gift, and the naming of Casarella Field is a fitting tribute to his remarkable service.
“Thank you, Coach Cas, for your unwavering commitment and impact on generations of North Rockland athletes,” the district declared.
