New York State Troop Car Struck on Palisades Parkway: Move Over Law Reminder

On the Palisades Parkway, a New York State troop car was struck by another vehicle while a trooper was outside the car, speaking with a motorist regarding a traffic infraction. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to the New York Move Over Law.

The Move Over Law mandates that drivers exercise heightened caution when approaching an emergency or hazard vehicle stopped on the roadside with its emergency lights activated. Drivers are required to move one full lane away from the stopped vehicle if it is safe to do so. If changing lanes is not possible, drivers must significantly reduce their speed as they approach the stopped vehicle.

Authorities urge all motorists to follow these regulations to ensure the safety of law enforcement officers and all roadside workers.
