The New York State Police issued 24,191 tickets statewide during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement campaign. The enforcement period ran from Saturday, November 23, through Sunday, December 1, 2024.
The campaign was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. State Police used sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and targeted distracted drivers using handheld electronic devices. Troopers also focused on speeding and aggressive driving.
During the campaign, police arrested 251 people for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and investigated 1,259 crashes, including three fatal crashes. In total, 4,338 tickets were issued for speeding, 371 for distracted driving, 2,520 for seatbelt violations, and 242 for Move Over Law violations.
In the Hudson Valley, including Rockland County, Troopers issued a significant number of tickets. Troop F, which covers Western Hudson Valley and parts of Rockland, issued 1,472 tickets. Troop K, covering Eastern Hudson Valley, issued 1,474 tickets. These totals included tickets for DWI, speeding, and seatbelt violations.
State Police remain committed to improving road safety in Rockland County and across the state. Campaigns like this aim to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities by encouraging safe driving and holding violators accountable.
