The New York State Police has announced the promotion of Captain Brian T. Ferrone to the rank of Major. Major Ferrone will serve as the 27th Troop Commander of Troop T, the division responsible for law enforcement operations along the New York State Thruway.
In his new role, Major Ferrone will oversee uniformed members and civilian employees stationed in 12 posts across 21 counties, from New York City to Buffalo. Troop T covers 570 miles of roadway and is responsible for ensuring safety and security for millions of motorists who travel the Thruway each year.
Major Ferrone most recently served as Captain and Zone Commander of Troop T – Zone 1, supervising operations throughout Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Ulster counties. His leadership experience spans multiple regions and assignments, reflecting a distinguished career of service and dedication.
Ferrone joined the New York State Police in 2005 and began his career with Troop K, SP Wappinger. Over the years, he rose steadily through the ranks, serving in Troops B, K, NYC, and T in a variety of leadership capacities. His assignments included supervising operations at key transportation sites such as New York City’s bridges and tunnels and the World Trade Center. In 2021, he was promoted to Captain and led Troop NYC’s Zone 3 before returning to Troop T the following year.
A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, Major Ferrone holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology with minors in psychology and criminal justice. Before joining the State Police, he served with the New York City Police Department in the 23rd and 34th Precincts. In 2018, he completed the FBI National Academy’s 274th Session in Quantico, Virginia.
With two decades of service and extensive field experience, Major Ferrone brings a deep understanding of public safety operations and the Thruway system to his new role as Troop T Commander.
