The New York State Education Department has appointed Shawn Farr as the fiscal monitor for the East Ramapo Central School District. Farr, who previously served as the chief financial officer for Rochester schools, will oversee the district’s efforts to achieve long-term academic and financial stability.
State officials have tasked Farr with ensuring the effective implementation of East Ramapo’s improvement plans. The district has faced significant budgetary issues for years, accompanied by parental concerns regarding the quality of education, insufficient resources, and deteriorating infrastructure.
In his role as a district monitor, Farr will act as an ex officio member of the district’s board of education. He will hold the authority to approve the appointment of a superintendent, override proposed or adopted board resolutions, and mandate training for board members, including the superintendent. This appointment aims to address and rectify the longstanding challenges faced by the East Ramapo school district.
