Skvere Mosdos of New Square held a comprehensive school bus safety training program for students from nursery through 8th-grade girls on Monday morning, following a similar training held for the boys’ school several months ago. The initiative was organized by the school to reinforce safe bus habits before students travel to and from school.
As part of the program, students were taught the proper procedures for safely exiting a school bus and crossing the street. They were instructed to exit the bus, walk to the sidewalk, and make eye contact with the bus driver before crossing, waiting for the driver’s signal to proceed.
Ramapo Police Community Policing Officer Jullain Franklin joined the training to assist with the presentation, demonstrating the correct safety procedures and helping students understand the importance of following them every time they ride the bus.
School officials said the training is part of their continued commitment to student safety and ensuring children develop safe habits around school buses.

Great, school bus/bus stop safety is extremely. important for children to learn, and should be re-taught yearly. HOWEVER having responsible adults sending and receiving children on and off buses is crucial. Children by their very nature are easily distracted and will forget basic safely rules. Most 8, 9 and even 10yo children will will routinely forget to look both ways before crossing a street. Adults must be present, full stop.
