New Square Emergency Services (NSES Ershte Hilf) is urging residents to remain alert after several repeated incidents involving a scammer who has been targeting community members with an emotional and deceptive plea for money, according to an alert distributed this week .
The organization reports that the individual, who presents himself as a familiar member of the community, approaches residents with a distressed expression, claiming his landlord is threatening to evict him due to unpaid rent. After requesting money, he then attempts to lure victims into his vehicle or asks them to show him where they live or accompany him to a bank.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the Police now have the individual’s information, thanks to the license-plate readers positioned throughout New Square. However, he continues to return using different vehicles, making it difficult to track his movements and prompting renewed warnings.
NSES Ershte Hilf emphasizes the following safety reminders:
- Never enter a vehicle belonging to someone you do not know.
- You cannot know whether the person wants only money, or chas v’shalom something more dangerous.
Residents are urged to immediately report any suspicious encounters or behavior to New Square Emergency Services (Ershte Hilf) at 845-354-0222 and the Ramapo Police at 845-357-2400 so responders can take quick action.
