On Tuesday, New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer met with U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Congressman Mike Lawler to discuss strengthening ties with the New Square community and addressing critical issues to enhance its well-being.
As part of his visit, Mayor Spitzer attended a reception commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the United States Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad. The event, held at the U.S. Congressional Visitors Center, brought together commission members and leaders to honor the organization’s mission of preserving cultural and historical heritage sites abroad.
The commission includes notable members such as Chair Star Jones, Herbert Block, Rabbi Abba Cohen, and Hershel Wein. Among them was Rabbi Edgar Gluck, recently reappointed to the commission. Rabbi Gluck’s reinstatement was facilitated by Congressman Lawler, who referred him to Speaker Johnson, leading to his nomination and subsequent appointment by President Joe Biden.
During his meeting with Speaker Johnson, Mayor Spitzer also shared a blessing from the Skvere Rebbe Shlita.
