Rockland County has unveiled a new Flashover and Backdraft Simulator Module at its state-of-the-art Fire Training Center, significantly expanding training capabilities for volunteer firefighters across the county.
The simulator, designed to replicate high-risk, real-world fire scenarios in a controlled environment, allows trainees to safely experience and respond to dangerous conditions like flashovers and backdrafts—phenomena that can occur suddenly during structure fires.
“This advanced module enhances realism, improves decision-making under pressure, and ultimately supports both firefighter safety and performance,” said Chris Kear, Director of Fire & Emergency Services.
County Executive Ed Day emphasized the county’s ongoing investment in emergency readiness: “We’re committed to equipping our firefighters with the tools they need to protect our community—safely and effectively.”
The addition marks another step in Rockland’s efforts to modernize emergency response training and ensure preparedness for increasingly complex fire emergencies.
