An MVA involving an overturned vehicle and the Monsey Fire Department’s Rest and Comfort (RAC) vehicle occurred Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:15 PM at the intersection of Union Road and Ivy Lane.
According to information obtained by Monsey Scoop, the driver of a passenger vehicle lost control, crossed into the opposite lane of travel, and struck the Monsey Fire Department RAC vehicle. The impact caused the passenger vehicle to overturn and crash into a utility pole, snapping it in half and bringing down power lines in the area.
Dashcam footage obtained by Monsey Scoop appears to show that the RAC vehicle was traveling normally in its lane at the time of the crash. The footage contradicts rumors circulating on social media claiming the RAC vehicle was responding to an emergency. Sources confirmed to Monsey Scoop that the RAC vehicle was not operating in emergency mode when it was struck.
A large emergency response was dispatched to the scene, including Hatzoloh EMS, Spring Hill EMS, Rockland Paramedic Services, Ramapo Police, the Hillcrest Fire Department, and Monsey Fire Department personnel.
Orange & Rockland Utilities crews were requested to respond due to the damaged utility pole and downed wires. Motorists experienced delays in the area as emergency crews worked to assist those involved, secure the scene, and address the utility hazards.
