NEW HEMPSTEAD: New Stop Sign Installed at Union Road and Grandview Avenue to Improve Safety After Multiple Accidents

A new stop sign has been installed at the intersection of Union Road and Grandview Avenue following several recent accidents in the area.

According to County of Rockland Highway Superintendent Charles Vezzetti, the decision came after the Village of New Hempstead asked the County to conduct a traffic study. “After several recent accidents at this intersection, the Village of New Hempstead asked the County to conduct a traffic study. Based on the findings, our traffic engineer recommended installing a stop sign at Union Avenue and Grandview Avenue. We expect this measure will help reduce crashes and make the roadway safer for everyone,” Charles Vezzetti told Monsey Scoop.

County Executive Ed Day told Monsey Scoop, “Public safety is always our top priority. By working closely with local officials and acting on data-driven recommendations, we’re taking proactive steps to protect drivers, pedestrians, and the entire community.”

Village of New Hempstead Mayor Abe Sicker told Monsey Scoop, “We’ve been working with the county as this is partially a county intersection to address safety concerns at this intersection for some time. I’m pleased to see this important improvement completed, which will hopefully reduce and or eliminate the constant accidents at this intersection. Our goal is to ensure safer roads for all who travel through our village.”
