New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 Mourns the Loss of Past President Michael Flannery

The New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Past President and Life Member Michael Flannery, who passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 85.

Flannery dedicated nearly five decades to the fire company, joining in October 1976 and quickly becoming a vital part of the organization. Throughout his tenure, he actively contributed to several key committees, including Fire Prevention, Annual Dinner, and Public Relations. His commitment to the company and the community was evident in his steady leadership and involvement.

In 1993, Flannery was elected President of the fire company, a role he served with distinction for two years. Known for his quiet demeanor, warm smile, and unwavering dedication, he left a lasting impact on the department and the residents of New City.

Beyond his service to the fire company, Flannery had a long and successful career in communications, working with New York Telephone, Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, and Verizon before retiring. In his later years, he and his wife, Betty, relocated to Florida, where they resided until his passing.

The New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 extends its deepest condolences to Flannery’s wife, Betty, and the entire family during this difficult time. His legacy of service and dedication will not be forgotten.
