Nearly 100 guns and rifles were turned in during a successful Gun Buyback event held Saturday in the Village of Haverstraw, organized by Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh and his office. The initiative, as previously reported by Monsey Scoop, aimed to reduce gun violence and promote public safety by offering community members a safe and anonymous way to surrender unwanted firearms.
District Attorney Walsh expressed gratitude to the community for its participation and emphasized the importance of such programs in curbing illegal firearms and potential crimes. Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut was acknowledged for providing the use of Village Hall for the event, and Town of Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips was thanked for his ongoing support of public safety initiatives.
Officials hailed the turnout as a major success and a meaningful step toward a safer Rockland County.
