Nanuet Man Receives One-Year Sentence for Fatal 2019 Crash Involving Teenagers

Jason Castro, 47, of Nanuet, was sentenced to one year in Rockland County Jail after pleading guilty to two counts of criminally negligent homicide. The sentence stems from an October 2019 crash that killed two teenagers, 17-year-old Altin Nezaj of Pearl River, and 15-year-old Saniha Cekic of Brooklyn.

During the incident, Castro was driving at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 304 in Pearl River. His vehicle collided with a Porsche driven by 17-year-old Aisha Radoncic, carrying two teen passengers, resulting in it going off the road. Radoncic survived, but faced charges in Family Court due to her age.

The sentencing followed emotional statements from the victims’ parents. Castro, expressing remorse, had his written apology read by his defense attorney in court.
