At approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a taxi crashed into a utility pole on Pipetown Hill Road near Klint Court in Nanuet, snapping the pole in half and sparking a large emergency response.

Spring Valley Fire Department, Clarkstown Police, and Nanuet EMS all responded to the scene. Witnesses told Monsey Scoop that the driver—believed to be heavily intoxicated—fled on foot immediately following the crash.

As of 9:15 a.m., Pipetown Hill Road remains completely closed between South Central Avenue and South Pascack Road. The closure is expected to remain in effect for several hours as Orange & Rockland Utilities crews work to replace the damaged pole and restore service.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the road is reopened. Police are actively investigating the incident and searching for the driver involved.
