The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced that it is closely monitoring a mysterious oil slick that has appeared in Sparkill Creek, located in the Village of Piermont.
Local residents first noticed the oil slick recently and reported seeing work crews dumping an unidentified liquid into the creek. The sighting raised concerns about potential environmental hazards and prompted immediate action from local authorities.
The Piermont Fire Department quickly responded to the reports and traced the source of the contamination to a nearby construction site. Collaborating with the Rockland County Hazmat Team, firefighters worked diligently to contain the spill and minimize its impact on the surrounding environment.
In a statement, the Piermont Fire Department said, “The DEC will continue to monitor and investigate the source site and creek to verify if further cleanup action is required to protect public health and the environment.”
As the investigation continues, residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any further signs of contamination to the authorities. The DEC remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and its natural resources.
