At approximately 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Monsey Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a strong gas odor in the area of Old Nyack Turnpike. The odor was reported across several nearby neighborhoods, prompting an investigation. Around the same time, the Tallman Fire Department received a similar report near Spook Rock Road, which appeared to be related. Ramapo Police, Chaverim of Rockland, and Orange & Rockland (O&R) also responded. After conducting an extensive investigation at both locations, O&R was unable to locate the source of the odor. The cause remains unknown.
