Early this morning, emergency responders were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident on the northbound Palisades Parkway at Exit 9W. The incident occurred just after 6 a.m., prompting Nanuet EMS and Rockland Paramedic Services Medic 5 to rush to the scene.
According to initial reports, the vehicle had rolled down an embankment, resulting in one passenger being ejected and subsequently self-extricating before EMS arrived. The driver, however, was pinned under the vehicle in a wetland area, necessitating a prolonged and complex extrication process.
Due to the severity of the situation, a medevac helicopter was requested to transport the driver once extricated. One patient was transported to Nyack Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center by Hackensack Meridian Health AirMed1. The landing zone for the medevac was established at the JCC in West Nyack.
Emergency personnel from Nanuet Fire Engine Company No.1, Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1, Excelsior Fire Engine Company No. 1, New York State Police, and the Clarkstown Police Department OEM were all on the scene, working collaboratively to manage the situation and ensure the safety of those involved.
