Most of the victims injured in Monday afternoon’s crash involving a special needs school van on the Southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway have now been released from the hospital, according to sources who spoke with Monsey Scoop.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. near Exit 11, when the van carrying seven children and two staff members crashed into a tree, prompting a massive emergency response from Hatzoloh EMS, Spring Hill EMS, Rockland Paramedics, and multiple law enforcement agencies.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that three children and one staff member have already been discharged from the hospital. Another three children and one staff member are expected to be released later tonight or Tuesday morning. One child remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for evaluation of possible internal bleeding but is reported to be in stable condition. Several of the occupants suffered fractures and other injuries.
Monsey Scoop has also learned that Rockland Hatzoloh Captain Abe Rosenberg remained at the hospital for several hours following the crash, ensuring that the victims and their families received the care and support they needed. Members of Bikur Cholim of Rockland County also responded to the hospital, providing food and refreshments for the families, medical staff, and emergency personnel assisting with the incident.
