Montefiore Nyack Hospital Reinstates Mask Mandate Amid Respiratory Illness Surge

In recent weeks, Montefiore Nyack Hospital, along with its associated Highland Medical Practices and Home Care services, has observed a substantial rise in respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. This trend is consistent with the increased cases reported throughout the County and New York State. In response to this surge, the hospital has announced the reinstatement of mandatory mask-wearing policies.

Effective immediately, all staff, patients, and visitors across Montefiore Nyack Hospital properties are required to wear masks. This mandate extends to the Highland Medical Practices and Home Care locations. The hospital emphasizes that masks are essential when the recommended social distancing of six feet or more is not feasible, especially in non-patient areas.

The hospital administration views this measure as a crucial first step in mitigating the transmission of infectious diseases. This approach aims to strike a balance by not affecting the number of bedside visitors or imposing other more stringent restrictions at this stage. Hospital officials reiterate their commitment to patient and staff safety and will continue to monitor the situation closely, ready to adjust policies as needed to respond to the evolving public health landscape.
