MONTEBELLO: Tree Falls and Snaps Utility Pole, Causing 12-Hour Power Outage on Heather Hill Lane; Power Restored

A power outage that lasted approximately 12 hours on Heather Hill Lane left at least 32 Orange and Rockland Utilities customers without electricity after a tree fell and snapped a utility pole Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the fallen tree brought down live wires and broke the pole, causing extensive damage and knocking out power to multiple homes. Ramapo Police Department and Tallman Fire Department were on scene during the day to secure the area and assist with safety operations.

With residents left without power for hours, Chaverim of Rockland responded by delivering generators to affected homes, working tirelessly to assist families throughout the prolonged outage.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., New York State Senator, Bill Weber, contacted Orange and Rockland Utilities to escalate the situation and ensure that a utility crew was dispatched. Additional advocacy on behalf of residents was provided by Montebello Deputy Mayor Stacy Caridi, Spring Valley Deputy Mayor and Community Askan Yisroel Eisenbach, and Chaverim of Rockland Coordinator Yossi Margeratten.

Utility crews later arrived on scene and worked for approximately six hours to remove the large tree, replace the snapped pole, and repair the damaged lines. Officials said the repairs were complicated by the size of the tree and the hazardous conditions surrounding the downed wires.

Power was fully restored to Heather Hill Lane shortly after midnight, at approximately 12:15 a.m. Thursday, bringing relief to residents following the extended outage.
