A massive fire that erupted Sunday evening at a home on Bayard Lane took several hours to bring under control, drawing nearly a dozen fire departments and numerous emergency agencies to the scene.
The fire was reported at approximately 8:45 p.m., with firefighters from the Tallman Fire Department and Ramapo Police among the first to respond. Crews encountered a fully involved garage fire that quickly spread, with preliminary information indicating the blaze started in a vehicle parked inside the home’s garage.
Firefighters faced an additional challenge after a nearby fire hydrant reportedly did not function properly, forcing crews to secure a water supply from Route 202 while battling the intense flames.
Mutual aid was requested from the Suffern, Mahwah, Hillburn, Hillcrest, Monsey, Sloatsburg, Spring Valley, Nanuet, and Central Nyack fire departments. The response also included the Mahwah FAST Team, Central Nyack FAST Team, Rockland County Hazmat, Westchester County Hazmat, Spring Hill EMS, and William P. Faist EMS.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The homeowner also reportedly suffered injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
