Emergency personnel responded Thursday morning after a vehicle lost control and crashed into a gas meter outside a home on West Maple Avenue near Saddle River Road and Hershel Terrace, causing an active gas leak and forcing the roadway to be shut down.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. The Monsey Fire Department, Ramapo Police, and Orange & Rockland Utilities responded to the scene to secure the area and contain the leak.
Authorities closed the roadway while crews worked to address the situation. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
