MONSEY: Suspected Drunk Driver Flees Scene of Viola Road Crash, Apprehended By Ramapo Police After Backyard Pursuit

Late last night, at approximately 10:35 PM, an MVA occurred on Viola Road near Garden Terrace. Emergency personnel from Hatzoloh EMS and officers from the Ramapo Police Department quickly arrived at the scene. One of the vehicles involved struck and toppled a fire hydrant, adding to the chaos.

In a startling turn of events, one of the drivers fled the scene on foot. Witnesses described the suspect as a male dressed entirely in black, who jumped over a gate behind a home on Garden Terrace, making his way toward Zabriskie Terrace.

Footage obtained by Monsey Scoop captures the moment the accident unfolded at the intersection of Garden Terrace and Viola Road.

At approximately 11:20 PM, authorities located the suspect behind 12 Zabriskie Terrace. A brief pursuit ensued through several backyards. Officers employed a BolaWrap device to apprehend the individual. Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the device used was not a taser, despite initial appearances.

The suspect was arrested down the block shortly thereafter. Sources tell Monsey Scoop that he was driving while intoxicated and had at least one outstanding warrant from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office. The incident is currently under investigation.
