MONSEY: Strong Winds Cause Power Outages and Traffic Disruptions; Mountain Ave, Nelson Rd, Remsen Ave and More Impacted

Powerful winds sweeping through the area have caused multiple incidents, including fallen trees, downed power lines, and malfunctioning traffic lights, leading to significant disruptions.

One major incident occurred at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Nelson Road, where a large tree came crashing down, bringing down electric wires. Emergency personnel, including Ramapo Police, the Monsey Fire Department, and Chaverim of Rockland, arrived at the scene to assess the damage and assist with road closures.

In a separate incident along Remsen Avenue between Hilda Lane and Boxwood Lane, fallen trees and downed power lines caused an outage affecting approximately 910 Orange & Rockland Utilities customers. Orange & Rockland crews are actively working to restore power, with an estimated completion time of 6:00 PM, though repairs could be completed sooner as they operate in storm mode.

Additionally, several traffic lights in the area have been knocked out, creating hazardous driving conditions at multiple intersections. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and treat non-functioning traffic lights as four-way stops.

Residents are advised to report any hazards or downed wires and to remain indoors where possible as strong winds continue to pose a risk. This is a developing story—stay tuned for updates
