MONSEY: Smoke Incident at Downtown 33 Office Building on Route 59 Prompts Evacuation

A smoke condition at the Downtown 33 office building on Route 59 led to a full evacuation on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 PM, emergency personnel were dispatched after reports of smoke emerging from the sixth-floor elevator shaft. The Monsey Fire Department, alongside South Spring Valley FD, Tallman FD, Suffern FD, and Orange & Rockland Utilities, swiftly arrived at the scene to investigate the source of the smoke.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

By 4:30 PM, officials confirmed that the smoke was caused by a burnt elevator motor. With the situation under control, authorities deemed the building safe, and it was subsequently reopened to occupants.
