The Monsey community is mourning the loss of Joseph Raphael Kurek, longtime owner of the Monsey Service Station at the corner of Grove Street and Main Street, who was niftar on Friday, He was 75.
Joseph Raphael Kurek was born in Israel, and became a familiar and trusted presence in Monsey after opening the service station in 1983. For decades, “Joe from the service station” was known to generations of residents, serving customers with consistency, warmth, and dedication, becoming part of the fabric of the neighborhood for many who remember him from their childhood.
The levaya was held Tuesday, with family, friends, and longtime community members coming to pay their final respects.
