A massive and fast-moving structure fire tore through a multi-family home under construction on Jeffrey Place in Monsey on Sunday evening, prompting a large-scale emergency response and the involvement of more than a dozen fire departments from across Rockland County.
The fire was first reported shortly after 6:00 p.m., when crews from the Monsey Fire Department rapidly arrived on scene to find heavy fire conditions and intense flames rapidly spreading throughout the structure. Due to the severity of the fire, it was quickly escalated to a second alarm, and soon afterward upgraded to a third alarm fire as additional resources were requested.
As the fire intensified, Maple Avenue was shut down between Howard Drive and Monsey Boulevard to allow emergency crews to operate safely. Numerous departments responded to assist Monsey Fire Department, ultimately bringing the blaze under control after approximately two hours of extensive firefighting operations.
Bechasdei Hashem, no injuries were reported.
Due to the freezing temperatures and the enormous volume of water poured onto the scene, roadways and surrounding areas quickly became dangerously icy. Volunteers from Chaverim of Rockland responded and worked throughout the operation, spreading salt across the roadway and property to prevent firefighters and emergency personnel from slipping. Chaverim members also assisted displaced residents by helping remove and secure important personal belongings from affected apartments.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the fire may have originated from welding work taking place inside one of the apartments under construction. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Numerous agencies responded or assisted during the incident, including the Monsey Fire Department, Spring Valley Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Department, New City Fire Department, Pearl River Fire Department, Suffern Fire Department, West Nyack Fire Department, South Spring Valley Fire Department, Thiells Fire Department, and Nanuet Fire Department, while Orangeburg Fire Department provided standby coverage at Monsey Fire Department. Also on scene were Hatzoloh EMS, Spring Hill EMS, the Ramapo Police Department, and Chaverim of Rockland.
Fire officials praised the coordinated response among fire departments, law enforcement, and volunteer organizations, which helped prevent injuries and further damage despite the challenging conditions.

Wow looks like a massive fire
Are these the same folks that kept me in danger in Pearl River and said its safe during an active drug lab? and subsequent calls? Who is in charge of these shows?
It’s nice they want to help others. What about me?.
The help you seek is not one provided by your 100% professional volunteer fire department, but rather a mental health specialist!
What ever happened if in passed is in pass don’t let I trust me it’s me been there with another department been there with another department
Fire dept , deep pockets, don’t let them in, they do lots of extra damage!
Put a 10 year moratorium on any and all new construction. Rockland County is positively oversaturated, enough is enough. How can you expect the fire departments to continue to handle fires and other emergencies with such a concentration of structures and strain on the water supply? If a hotel has no vacancies you look elsewhere, no homes do the same. Rockland County is practically unrecognizable now, I weep to think what it will become in the next 10 years.
