MONSEY: Major Road Closures On N Saddle River Road Between West Maple Ave & Grove Street Through Mid-May

Drivers in Monsey should expect significant disruptions over the coming days as the Town of Ramapo Highway Department moves forward with critical infrastructure work along North Saddle River Road, including the installation of a new water main and drainage system.

The closures will take place in two phases and will involve full road closures within the active work zones during daytime hours. The first phase, scheduled for May 4th through May 7th, will focus on the stretch of North Saddle River Road between Homestead Lane and Grove Street. During this time, North Saddle River Road will be closed in that area, with Homestead Lane closed at Saddle River Road except for local traffic. Albert Drive and nearby side streets will be limited to local access only, while Grove Street near its intersection with Saddle River Road will see partial closures with detours in place. Traffic will be routed through Grove Street, Main Street, Lane Street, and other nearby residential roads, with access maintained for local residents but through traffic restricted.

The second phase, scheduled for May 11th through May 14th, will expand the closure further north toward West Maple Avenue, impacting a larger portion of the corridor. North Saddle River Road will be closed from approximately West Maple Avenue down toward Homestead Lane, with continued restrictions throughout the Homestead Lane and Grove Street area. The intersection at West Maple Avenue will also be impacted, with traffic diverted before reaching Saddle River Road. Maple Avenue near Saddle River Road will be detoured, and surrounding streets, including Homestead Lane and nearby roads, will again be limited to local traffic. Access to nearby shuls and schools will require detours. Traffic during this phase will be redirected primarily via a Maple Avenue to Main Street to Grove Street loop, along with additional neighborhood detours similar to those in the first phase.

Closures will be in effect only during work hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with no work or road closures taking place on Fridays. Roads are expected to reopen after work hours each day.

Officials say the phased approach is part of a broader infrastructure project along Grove Street and North Saddle River Road and was scheduled in a way intended to minimize disruption to the community.

Parents and school bus companies are being urged to plan ahead and arrange alternate pickup and drop-off routes, as delays and rerouting are expected throughout both phases. Only local traffic will be permitted within the closure zones.

Monsey Scoop will provide updates as the project progresses.
