Members of the Monsey Fire Department traveled to Syracuse last Thursday and Friday to attend the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs’ FIRE 2026 Expo, where they participated in a variety of advanced training programs designed to enhance firefighting skills and operational readiness.
Among the highlights was the “Fire Behavior On the Inside” hands-on training, which gave firefighters a rare opportunity to observe changing fire conditions from inside a live-fire environment while instructors demonstrated critical fireground tactics such as window ventilation, door control, and Vent-Enter-Search (VES) operations. Throughout the training, participants examined how firefighter actions can impact fire behavior and overall fireground conditions.
In addition to the live-fire exercises, firefighters attended educational sessions, demonstrations, and exhibits featuring the latest equipment, technology, and firefighting techniques. The annual FIRE 2026 Expo attracted fire service professionals from across New York State for two days of training, networking, and professional development.
The experience provided Monsey firefighters with valuable knowledge and practical skills that will help strengthen emergency response capabilities and enhance public safety in the community.
