The Monsey Fire Department has taken a major step forward in emergency management with the launch of a state-of-the-art Dispatch Communications Center—streamlining real-time coordination between dispatchers, officers, firefighters, and drone operators.
Unlike most fire departments, where only officers and drivers respond over a countywide radio system with limited information, Monsey’s advanced system allows all members to communicate during the critical initial moments of an alarm. This innovation eliminates confusion about who is responding and from where—common issues that often lead to under-response or responder burnout. Once on scene, operations shift seamlessly to standard tactical (TAC) channels, consistent with county-wide protocol.
Further enhancing its emergency response capabilities, the Monsey Fire Department deploys drones that transmit live video directly to dispatchers and command officers, providing immediate situational awareness and allowing for faster, more informed decision-making.
To better serve the community’s diverse population, the district established a locally operated, 24/7 dispatch hotline at 845-425-9300. Staffed by trained call takers familiar with the community, the system is designed to overcome language and cultural barriers. Emergency calls are quickly routed to responding members and, when necessary, shared with Rockland County’s 44-Control for mutual aid—mirroring dispatch models used in counties like Orange, where local police departments coordinate closely with fire services and county control centers.
The facility is fully equipped to handle high call volumes and is especially critical during peak times—such as during storms or large-scale community events like Lag B’Omer, when emergency activity increases significantly. It includes emergency power generators and workspace for multiple call takers, dispatchers, and drone operators, all working in tandem under one roof.
This new Dispatch Communications Center reflects the Monsey Fire Department’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and public safety—ensuring faster response times and a higher standard of service for the community it proudly protects.
