MONSEY: Fallen Tree and Transformer Explosion Cause Widespread Power Outage In College Road Area

A significant power outage has hit Monsey after a large tree fell onto power lines in front of 74 College Road near Mountain Avenue, causing extensive damage, including the explosion of a nearby transformer. The incident has left approximately 1,700 Orange and Rockland Utilities customers without electricity.

Emergency personnel, including the Monsey Fire Department, Ramapo Police, and Chaverim of Rockland, quickly responded to the scene. Orange and Rockland Utilities crews are currently working to assess the situation and begin repairs.

The fallen tree has also caused traffic disruptions in the area. College Road is completely closed to traffic from Mountain Avenue to Louis Avenue. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as traffic lights are malfunctioning due to the power outage, creating hazardous driving conditions.
