The Monsey Eruv was inspected this week, with checkers conducting a detailed review in the Pomona section. According to the weekly report, a total of 16 issues were identified in Pomona, including 12 that affect the Eruv’s kosher status and four that require upgrades.
The Pomona findings include eight instances of PVC pipe separation. These half-inch PVC pipes, mounted on utility poles to serve as the vertical component (lechi) of the Eruv doorway, were found separating—likely due to expansion and contraction from temperature changes. Inspectors also noted four locations where tree branches are pushing against the Eruv wires, interfering with the lintel and potentially rendering the affected sections invalid. In addition, one broken bracket was discovered atop a PVC pipe, causing misalignment with the wire, and three other locations were flagged for physical adjustments to properly align the PVC with the pole and wire.
Elsewhere across the Monsey Eruv, inspectors reported six additional issues this week. These included tangled strings or wires along Spook Rock Road, Viola Road, and Route 45 within the Rambam Eruv; PVC alignment problems under the wire on Route 45 in the Spring Hill/Chestnut Ridge area and on Middletown Road in Hillcrest; and branches that were cut back on Middletown Road to clear the PVC.
Eruv officials note that repairs and adjustments are addressed promptly to ensure the Eruv remains compliant and usable for the community.
