MONSEY: Elevator Repair Mishap Triggers Sprinklers, Floods Shoppers Haven Mall

A repair operation at the Shoppers Haven Mall — home to Rockland Kosher — took an unexpected turn when a worker attempting to fix the elevator accidentally triggered the fire sprinkler system. The worker, who was using a torch during the repair, inadvertently activated the system, causing a sprinkler head to burst.

The incident led to extensive flooding throughout the mall, affecting both the upper and lower levels. Store owners and mall management quickly began cleanup efforts as water spread through retail spaces and, Chaverim of Rockland lent equipment to aid in the cleanup process. No injuries were reported, but several businesses sustained water damage.
