A large fire broke out Wednesday at approximately 11:29 a.m. at a home on Remsen Avenue in Monsey, prompting a major response and escalation to a 3rd alarm as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control. Heavy smoke was seen billowing from the residence as crews battled the fire.
Monsey Fire Department responded along with mutual aid from West Nyack, Hillcrest, Spring Valley, Suffern, Tappan, Pearl River, Nyack, South Spring Valley, and Thiells Fire Departments. A crew from the Orangeburg Fire Department were relocated to the Monsey Fire headquarters to cover local calls. Spring Hill EMS, Ramapo Police, and Chaverim of Rockland also responded to the scene.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the very large vacation home had been rented by a group of girls visiting from Canada. All occupants were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries have been reported.
Fire crews remain on scene as they continue working to fully extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
