A 70-year-old African American man with dementia was found safe late Monday afternoon after an hours-long search involving multiple agencies and volunteers across Spring Valley and Monsey.
The man was first reported missing in the morning, sparking a swift response from local law enforcement. Officers from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and Spring Valley Police Department immediately launched a search operation, focusing on the areas around Fletcher Road and Monsey Boulevard.
As per the request of the Spring Valley Police, Chaverim of Rockland joined the effort around 4:30 PM, deploying trained volunteers to assist in canvassing the area. By 5:15 PM, a Chaverim member located the missing individual in good condition on South Monsey Road.
While it was ultimately a Chaverim volunteer who physically located the missing man, tremendous credit is due to the Spring Valley Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless efforts, coordination, and groundwork that laid the path for a successful outcome. Their early response, professionalism, and collaboration with community organizations played a critical role in bringing this search to a safe and positive resolution.
