Man Found Dead on Bench in Spring Valley Park Amid Freezing Temperatures

A man, believed to be homeless, was discovered dead on a bench at the gazebo in the park near Maple Avenue and North Main Street on Monday morning.

The individual, described by witnesses as appearing “frozen,” was found amid frigid temperatures that had plunged overnight. Weather conditions in the area were severe, with the thermometer reading 30 degrees Sunday night, dropping to 16 degrees by 8 a.m. Monday. The wind chill made it feel as cold as 7 degrees.

While hypothermia due to exposure to the elements is suspected, the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the man had a prior history of alcohol abuse, which may have contributed to his death.

This tragic incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, particularly during the harsh winter months. Local organizations have reiterated the importance of utilizing warming shelters and other resources for individuals at risk.
