In response to the mailbag published on April 27th on Monsey Scoop titled “Concerned Ramapo Resident Calls for Action on Dump Truck Danger in Local Neighborhood”, I would like to thank the resident for bringing this matter to public attention.
I have spoken with our Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division regarding the concerns raised about dump truck traffic in the Calvert Drive and West Maple Avenue area. After reviewing the matter, the Police determined that there are currently no legal restrictions on commercial truck traffic on these specific roads. However, that does not mean unsafe behavior will be tolerated.
If trucks—or any vehicles—are observed speeding, ignoring stop signs, or committing any traffic violations, our officers will take appropriate enforcement action. Patrol units will also be actively monitoring the area to ensure compliance with all vehicle and traffic laws and to promote public safety.
It’s worth noting that in areas such as Highview Road, where truck restrictions are legally in place, our police have conducted targeted enforcement efforts over the past two months to ensure those rules are followed.
We appreciate the community’s engagement and take all concerns seriously. The safety of our residents remains a top priority, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement and the public to maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
