In response to recent concerns shared regarding the Tallman Fire Department’s alarm whistle, I would like to provide some clarification.
At our Fire District Commissioner meeting held on Tuesday evening, it was brought to our attention that one of the whistles—specifically the unit located near the corner of Church Road and Utopian—has been activating outside of its scheduled hours. From what we gathered, this was due to a malfunctioning timer, and steps are already being taken to address it. We are contacting a company to inspect and repair the issue.
Our district operates three whistles, and at this time, the other two are functioning properly with no reported issues. All whistles are programmed to remain silent between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM, and should only activate during daytime hours (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM). The unit in question has been shut off until the necessary repairs can be made.
We appreciate the community’s feedback and patience as we work to maintain both public safety and neighborhood peace.
Sincerely,
James Santoro
Chief (20-1), Tallman Fire Department
