The recent report about a taxi driver assaulting a customer during a fare dispute should be a wake-up call for our community.
Sadly, I can’t say I’m surprised.
I had my own troubling experience after being quoted one fare, only to be asked to pay significantly more at the end of the ride. When I questioned the charge, I was removed from the vehicle. Hoping the company would address the issue, I called to file a complaint. Instead, I was told that drivers could charge whatever they wanted. Whether that is official policy or simply the response I received, it left me with the impression that customer complaints were not being taken seriously.
Now, according to reports, another customer was assaulted during a dispute over a fare. Even more troubling are claims that community leaders may have discouraged the victim from pursuing charges. If those reports are accurate, we should all be asking ourselves some difficult questions. Are we more concerned with avoiding controversy than protecting members of our own community?
This isn’t just about one incident. It’s about accountability. When complaints are dismissed instead of addressed, trust erodes and problems have a way of repeating themselves.
Every business that serves our community should have a transparent process for handling customer complaints, and every person who steps in to help resolve disputes should put the victim’s well-being and public safety first.
I hope this incident becomes a turning point. Our community deserves accountability, transparency, and the confidence that when something goes wrong, it will be taken seriously—not brushed aside until something even worse happens.

Unless the victim did something illegal himself (no indication of that), the fact that he was discouraged from pressing charges is disgusting and shameful. Whether or not this was a hate crime (it doesn’t seem like it was), people need to be taught a lesson that you can’t assault other people. If members of the community are too nervous or unsure about getting a ccw permit, they should at least carry pepper spray and/or a stun gun, both of which are extremely cheap, easy to buy and easy to use. Regardless, you should ALWAYS call the police and press charges in situations like this.
We women are not allowed to drive unless we want to be kicked out of school.
Yet we have lives and families and jobs and we need to get around.
So we are forced to take taxis even if we feel unsafe because there is no other choice.
Imagine how vulnerable a woman feels in a taxi if a driver becomes hostile, especially if she has children with her and can’t get out quickly or easily.
Why is everyone okay with this?!
Use a Jewish taxi
1) calling a heimish taxi means waiting 20+ minutes if you are even lucky to get one. 2) not all women feel comfortable sitting with a heimish yungerman. How about let the women drive???
I get that women don’t necessarily feel comfortable sitting in a car with a Heimishe Yunger Man.
Please explain how sitting in a vehicle with a Goy is a reasonable solution??

They overcharge. Well, now it’s evening out with all those other taxis that are charging whatever their heart desires. My home address convinently becomes airmont, chestnut ridge, monsey, or spring valley on a whim – so it fits into the drivers argument as to why he is charging what he is. And as a Jewish girl, I have better things to protect than my money. And don’t forget, so many of them lock their doors until you give them what they want.
Another thing:
I was once in a ‘heimish’ taxi and midride the driver told me he wants to marry me. I AM NOT JOKING!

Also have you ever tried bundling 5 small kids and a double carriage and grocery bags in and out of a taxi? Its really not a very doable optiomn
You totally deserve to drive, if your not allowed to then tell your husband he has to drive you around this is insane you sound like a busy mother its just not realistic or fair that you should be taking taxis around especially if you don’t feel safe I’m sorry but safety comes before “tnius” of not driving like what on earth

Maybe all these taxi drivers can become kathy holcul personal drivers for it was her who gave all undocumented drivers license without taking test
Not gonna go into the conversation that the taxi companies (not gonna name any specific, since its not a secret) cost thousands of dollars each to the community weekly in lost insurance claims, because of inadequate coverage etc. I myself called in to report being physically struck by a driver while he was rushing through a shopping driveway to cross out an intersection light traffic pile up, months have passed, and i have yet to hear back anything, even though I specifically requested a follow-up call back.
Its sad to see how we aa a community keep this going like this without any checks & balances.

And now they’ve gotten big; they don’t look at the customers. It’s really crazy what’s going on? We have to get together and boycott them.
There is a Monroe KJ car service. is it called a safe car they actually very, very good when a driver is asking for more money. They cut off automatically from the system. They have cameras in the cars they have recording every word and they really taking care in caring for the customers we need to get in Monsey now

My son said he regularly asks dispatch for the price (Jewish taxi company), and very often the drivers refuse and insist on a higher amount. Why on earth didn’t this person press charges??? Is the ‘askan’ the owner of the taxi company???
Just start driving yourself so you don’t get into these issues. YES! Woman too!!
EVERYONE KNOWS THAT ARRIVE IS A HUGE PROBLEM!!! These yiddish owners have blood on there hands!! If I ever need to use a taxi I would definitely not use them! They are dangerous with the money, they are dangerous on the roads!!! All I see most of the time is that arrive was in an accident! Horrible!
