Last summer, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins visited Ramapo in a tour arranged by local Democratic leaders (link). The visit culminated in a political fundraiser where Democrat operatives assured attendees they had the Majority Leader’s full attention (link).
At the same time, while Democrats were making political promises, Republican Senator Bill Weber was holding a bipartisan Foundation Aid Forum focused on securing more funding for East Ramapo schools (link). That effort produced real results: $20 million in additional aid for East Ramapo this year alone (link).
So, nearly a year later, what came from all the “access” promised by the Democrats? Nothing. Despite significant community support for the Democratic Senate candidate, Albany’s Democratic leadership responded with a two-year extension of a state-appointed monitor with veto power over the East Ramapo Central School District.
It’s time we acknowledge that political access doesn’t equal meaningful results. While Democrats made speeches and held events, Republicans—who better align with our values—were delivering concrete outcomes for our community.
Let’s hope voters in Brooklyn choose Nachman Caller in today’s special election and help grow the Republican Senate Conference in Albany. They’re the ones truly standing up for our community’s needs (link).
