I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht, Chief of Staff Mona Montel, and Ramapo Police Chief Daniel Hyman for their continued efforts in working with the community to make Ramapo a safer and better place to live. From enhanced safety initiatives and increased garbage cleanups to improved parks and overall quality of life enhancements, their dedication does not go unnoticed. Kudos to all involved.
However, I feel compelled to bring attention to a serious ongoing issue that has plagued the Calvert Drive area for months.
Nearly every day, I witness dangerous scenes involving massive dump trucks—vehicles that clearly should not be using these small, residential side streets—barreling through at reckless speeds. These trucks are using West Maple Avenue to cut through to Route 306, Rita Avenue, Jill Lane, and surrounding streets. These are not county or state roads; these are quiet neighborhood streets. Yet the trucks not only ignore posted speed limits but also frequently run through stop signs, as clearly shown in the attached videos.
I am pleading with the Town of Ramapo and the Ramapo Police Department to please initiate a targeted crackdown on truck traffic in the Calvert Drive area. It is mind-boggling that this has been allowed to go on for so long. We must take action before a tragedy occurs—G-d forbid, the loss of a child.
With appreciation for all the positive work being done, I respectfully ask that this matter be addressed urgently for the safety and well-being of our neighborhood.

Where and how does one begin to start? “These are not county or state roads; these are quiet neighborhood streets.” you kidding me? There is no such thing as quiet neighborhood streets anymore in all of Monsey. “I am pleading with the Town of Ramapo and the Ramapo Police Department to please initiate a targeted crackdown on truck traffic in the Calvert Drive area. It is mind-boggling that this has been allowed to go on for so long. We must take action before a tragedy occurs—G-d forbid, the loss of a child.” Ahh, there was a loss of a child and she was buried yesterday, nebuch Lo Aleinu. And she wasn’t the first and R’L wont be the last. Its not only truck drivers that the three you heaped so much praise on are pushing on our once quiet neighborhood streets. The amount of speeding school buses driving around the streets here with total disregard for traffic conditions as well as the kids on board is also totally out of control. And God help us if we pass them after they make sudden stops after driving non stop with the yellow flashers on. The situation here in Monsey is only getting worse and its causing drivers to lose patience. This in turn causes the wanton disregard for single lane streets to become multiple lane highways with passing on the left. Keep on adding more and more multiple dwelling houses and multiple schools and Yeshivas on every street and see how much worse it will get. Thanks for nothing Michael and Mona. Signed Ephraim Yurowitz long time Monsey resident who misses the peace and quiet we once had.
I did not see any crime being committed.
As a person who has worked in the area for 41 years I have seen multiple accidents and some very unsafe driving practices in the area . People need to slow down and obey all laws especially red lights where I have seen many cars go as soon as the light turns red 3 to 4 cars go through the red light this is driver’s frustration for stuck in the increasing traffic in tha area.
