With a vote on his removal looming, Joe Morrison resigned from William P. Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corps at the last minute Thursday night, just moments before an 8:15 p.m. meeting at which the membership was expected to vote on whether to remove him from the organization, Monsey Scoop has confirmed.
The timing was striking. After nearly two weeks of controversy and an internal review by Faist EMS, Morrison’s continued membership was set to come before the organization Thursday night. Instead of waiting for the membership to decide his fate, Morrison submitted his resignation shortly before the meeting was scheduled to begin, ending his membership before the anticipated vote could take place.
The resignation comes after the Spring Valley Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners suspended Morrison for 30 days over the same incident, with possible additional disciplinary action still under review.
The controversy began after Morrison recorded and posted a video of a Hatzoloh EMS of Rockland County paramedic’s emergency vehicle parked in a handicapped parking space outside Costco in Nanuet with its emergency lights activated.
Monsey Scoop subsequently confirmed that the paramedic had rushed inside Costco to respond to a serious medical emergency involving an unresponsive child and was actively rendering emergency care when the video was recorded.
The video was later shared in local social media groups without that critical context, generating criticism of Hatzoloh and the Jewish community, including comments described as antisemitic.
Following Monsey Scoop’s initial report, both Faist EMS and the Spring Valley Fire District announced investigations. Faist EMS said its Board of Directors was taking the matter “very seriously” and conducting a thorough review in accordance with its bylaws, rules and established procedures.
That process brought the matter to Thursday night’s scheduled meeting, with Morrison’s membership facing an expected removal vote. But with the vote just moments away, Morrison resigned, making the vote unnecessary and ending his tenure with Faist EMS on his own terms before the membership could act.
