KIDDUSH HASHEM: Camp Coolam Visits Washington to Thank Pro-Israel Lawmakers, Including Congressman Mike Lawler, Amidst Protests

In a remarkable display of gratitude and support, 250 campers from Camp Coolam, visited Capitol Hill to thank pro-Israel Congress members and Senators from both parties. The visit, led by Camp Director Rabbi Eli Gonter, occurred while pro-Palestinian protests were taking place inside the Capitol on Tuesday.

The campers, aged between 8 and 16, wrote and signed letters expressing their appreciation for the unwavering support of Israel and the efforts to combat anti-Semitism by various lawmakers. This bipartisan initiative saw the young campers engaging with both Democratic and Republican members of Congress.

The letters, handed over personally by the campers, included a heartfelt message:

“On behalf of the members of bunk ________at Camp Coolam in Ramapo, New York, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support for Israel and your dedicated efforts to combat anti-Semitism. Your commitment to standing up for what is right and making the world a better place is truly inspiring. Your advocacy for Israel and your strong stance against anti-Semitism resonate deeply with us. In a time when these issues are often met with hostility and misunderstanding, your steadfastness provides a beacon of hope and reassurance. We are incredibly grateful for your courage and integrity in representing these values. The impact of your work extends far beyond the halls of Congress. It reaches communities like ours, where your actions affirm the importance of justice, equality, and the protection of human rights. You are not only a champion for Israel and the Jewish people but also a role model for young individuals who are learning the importance of standing up for their beliefs and making a positive difference in the world. Once again, thank you for your dedication and hard work. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are proud to have you as an ally and advocate.”

Congressman Mike Lawler was among the lawmakers who received the campers’ letters. He expressed his gratitude for their visit and commended them for their courage and initiative. “It’s inspiring to see young people taking such a proactive role in showing their support for Israel and standing against anti-Semitism,” said Lawler.

The visit by Camp Coolam was a significant Kiddush Hashem, demonstrating the campers’ commitment to hakaros hatov and their proactive stance in thanking those who stand with Israel amidst challenging times.
